The extent of my polo knowledge extends to ponies, and ponies on polos, thanks to Ralph Lauren. Thankfully through fashionable events, I am able to educate myself on how great horseplay can really be.
APL Photography was fortunate enough to attend and capture the Stella Artois Portsea Polo on Saturday, known as the ‘must-attend’ event on the summer social calendar. The high profile event is known for its wine and cuisine, the perfect weather in the great outdoors, and a mingling social scene, and of course, the game played on horseback. This year’s event continued to uphold its reputation, kick starting the fashionable events lined up for 2010.
The sun came out to play on a clear-blue Portsea sky, brightening up the day and moods of polo attendees. The crowd perfectly adhered to the neat-casual dress code, with ladies advised to avoid wearing high-heels. Ah the bliss of fashion and comfortable feet!
Logo-embossed Ralph Lauren attire was a popular brand of choice at the event, while sunglasses were aplenty. Fashions were relaxed yet fashionable, with florals and bright colours reflecting the summer mood.
While the event guarantees horse watching, it is also an opportunity for some star-spotting, with APL Photography capturing the celebrity attendees at the event.
Michael Klim and wife Lindy were spotted, as well as Rebecca Twigley, Alex Dimitriades and Paul Licuria. Brodie Harper and Brodie Young also attended, along with Sullivan Stapleton, Grant Smilie, John Safran and Amber Rose.
So there you have it, Ralph Lauren created his signature polo and logo for a reason, with the relationship between polo and fashion in mind. This isn’t the last of APL horsing around though, with a busy year ahead and the Spring Carnival later in the year, Anthony Licuria is sure to catch the fashions and fun to come, on and off the field.
